Reflections from the Farm
The beauty of Plowshares Farm Center for Education and Spirituality offers opportunity for introspection, contemplation and connection. These reflections are inspired by the life that surrounds us each day.
Glowing screens possess the world,
distracting and disturbing,
as two men meet in a simple barn
to do a job that must be done.
And in its course, it offers them
a chance for friendly conversation.
The worms at our feet
move the earth,
set it quivering,
memories of beings
who’ve passed and returned
to the dark rich deposit
of Earth’s recollections.
A winged predator landed in the broiler pen this morning,
Youthful beauty awes,
Fading to set wisdom’s seed.
Meaning is fulfilled.
Plant your feet
in the light of the moon,
best in a fertile sign
The heartbeat of deep verdant Earth
pulses in the tender seedling,
emerald and pressing
urgent leaves into the light.
The exuberance of spring spills out
in lanky little mantids
breaking free of winter’s cozy incubator.
Winter’s mud still clings to my boots
as joyful twittering
brightens the sky
above the plain and simple barn.
Have you ever stood so close to a cow
you could smell the sweet breath of her breathing?
